Clutch Inspiration

Shirt: J.Crew Blythe Blouse. Jacket: Zara (old). Skirt: H&M. Shoes: Boutique 9. Clutch: Zara (old). Ring: Stella & Dot. Necklace: unknown. Sunglasses: Chanel.

The weather in Toronto last weekend was gorgeous!  I took full advantage of the record temps by wearing this Spring-like outfit to a baby shower.  I really wanted to carry this sparkly sequin clutch so I actually selected my outfit with my purse as the starting point.  I often do that with shoes too.  I’ll style an entire outfit around an accessory instead of the other way around.  Do you ever use your accessories as your inspiration/starting piece for an outfit?

I can see how you’d get inspired by that clutch – it’s gorgeous! I have definitely worked an outfit around a necklace or a pair of shoes before :)

Aww, I really appreciate this comment. I know that some people find my style a boring, but I’m always true to myself and my style. As someone who reads a TON of fashion blogs, it’s really easy for me to think that mine doesn’t live up to the rest because I’m not always wearing the current trend or IT item, I’m not super pretty nor super skinny, and I’m not extra special in any way. I’m really just a regular, typical woman. I do wear trends but only if they are completely my style (HELLO, peplum!!!). Although camouflage really wasn’t my style but it was a trend I really wanted to wear. I found a Zara camo jacket that was TOTALLY my style, and found a fabulous way to incorporate camo into my wardrobe that was still completely me. Ha ha ha, sorry for this long rant, but I just want you to know that your comment means a lot to me. Thank you so very much.

I think you are a real emerging leader Jenny – you have a unique style & ‘voice’. I don’t comment often, but I read all your posts, and about 100 others, every day! So glad to get your reply =) Keep going!

The clutch is beautiful. Your shirt, your jacket well lets just say I love the entire outfit. Love the pop of color the top provides and the texture of the jacket balances out the lightness of the skirt. I think its great to build your outfit around an accessory, it helps you create an outfit that otherwise you could have overlooked.

I just came from Krystin (Sub Faux Pax) to you, there is snow in the background on her post and you are looking all spring like! I was thinking “I’m sure they are both in Canada” (granted Canada is enormous) but glad you qualified the weather in Toronto in your post! Jealous actually, we are due a shed load of snow (and you know us Brits can’t cope with snow. Or rain. Or sunshine come to think of it) so I’m craving spring right now.

Anyway, blah blah. Yes, I often build an outfit around a pair of (usually patterned) shoes, it’s fun to start with something other than what top goes with which bottom :-)

    • Posted January 17, 2013 at 8:27 pm by Jenny | Permalink

Ha ha ha, actually, Krystin and I are both from Toronto!! She must have taken her photos before the warm weekend because there is no snow left this week! Ha ha, you’re so observant Louise! :) Thank you so much!

Aww, thanks Elena! The shower I went to was very lovely. It was for lunch at a restaurant. I completely agree with you that the gift opening is definitely awkward for the person opening the gifts and my friend definitely felt that way also. But she did open the gifts when everyone was enjoying their desserts. I’m going to another baby shower (4 in 2 months) next weekend so I can let you know how that one goes. That one is at her home and men are actually invited as well. That will be my first baby shower with men present. :)
