Stripes, stripes and more stripes. Stripes are such a classic and easy print to pair with almost every pattern and color. I used to be scared of horizontal stripes because “they” say that horizontal stripes make you look wider. Well, whoever “they” are, “they” are wrong. I’ve since learned that it’s actually about the fit and cut of the clothing rather than the direction of the stripes. I know that vertical stripes are supposed to elongate your body, however I actually find horizontal stripes to be much more flattering most of the time.
To add a little bit of fun to this post, I’ve partnered with two extra fabulous Canadian ladies to showcase how we each wear stripes for three different occasions. The super stylish Kira from Northern Style Exposure is highlighting casual stripes, the always gorgeous Eleni from Convey the Moment is wearing stripes for date night, and I’m wearing stripes for the office. Definitely check out these two wonderful women over on their blogs.
This striped Club Monaco jacket is one of my favorite items in my wardrobe. Sadly it’s old, but 424 Fifth currently has a very similar version on sale available at Hudson’s Bay or Lord & Taylor. It seems to look good with everything, and adds that perfect finishing touch to an outfit. I’ve also worn it with sneakers for a casual look, with a chartreuse dress for work, and a white dress for a date night.

This Kate Spade striped Dorothy coat is one of my favorite purchases of this year so far. I picked this up at the Kate Spade Outlet last month, and have just been waiting for the weather to warm so I could wear it. The dramatic bow, classic stripes and lightweight fabric make this a perfect Spring/Summer staple in my wardrobe. You may still be able to find this striped coat at the Kate Spade Outlet, but it’s also available in regular Kate Spade stores in a slightly heavier fabric, in both solid white and red.

Mint Green and Cobalt Blue. A soft pastel shade and a bold bright hue that don’t seem like they should be paired together, but actually compliment each other quite nicely. A combination that I’ve worn in the past (in the posts Panama and Pick-Me-Up), and will definitely wear again in the future. Have you paired these two pretty colors together? Do you have any unusual yet complimentary color pairings that you love to wear?
