Winter Florals and Stripes

Wednesday, November 28, 2012 73 0

Jacket: BCBG. Top: H&M. Skirt: H&M. Shoes: Topshop. Handbag: Chanel. Rings: H&M, BCBG. Sunglasses: Chanel.

Florals and stripes were a favourite combination for me this past Summer (as seen here and here), and this is my Winter version of the mixed prints.  I would also like to share a little story with you today.  Last Thursday was one of the weirdest days of my life, and I can’t help but share it with you.  I’m a typical Virgo…type A personality, organized, a perfectionist and always prepared, so that’s why the events of last Thursday really threw me for a loop.  They say bad things come in 3’s, but I’m now thinking that applies to weird events too.

1.  Last Thursday, I woke up, got dressed for work, arrived at the office, and a co-worker looked at me and screamed, “Is today Friday?”  I gave her a confused look and said no.  She pointed at my legs, I looked down and realized I was wearing jeans!  I had worn jeans for casual Friday on Thursday!  For a number of reasons, I thought it was Friday that morning, and I felt so ridiculous!  Thank goodness my Manager is really cool and she just laughed and laughed.  I’m not joking when I say that I’ve actually had nightmares of this happening to me.

2.  I was driving home to my parents house for the weekend that night after work, which is about 4 hours away from Toronto.  This was one of the reasons I thought it was Friday, because I usually leave to visit my parents on Friday nights (not Thursdays).  I was just outside of Toronto and saw an animal strolling along the side of the highway.  I slowed down and realized it was a pig!  A PIG!  You definitely don’t see that everyday in Toronto.  Then I noticed that the song playing on the radio was “You’re a Strange Animal!”  A pig on the side of the road when “You’re a Strange Animal” is on the radio?. . .c’mon. . . what are the chances?!

3. After 4 hours in the car, I finally made it to my parents house.  They were out for dinner so I tried to let myself in the back door.  Their lock has been jamming lately and I couldn’t get it open, so I went to try the front door.  For some odd reason, my key wouldn’t work in that door either.  I called my brother, who lives about 10 minutes away, to come over and let me in through the garage with his remote.  I asked him what he was doing, and he said he was sitting in his driveway, waiting for his friend to come over with his spare key because he locked himself out of his house!  What are the odds that my brother and I we were both locked out of our houses at the same time and sitting in our driveways waiting to be rescued!?

Oh, what a day!  So strange, but so funny.  I really was laughing all day, especially about the pig!  This may be one of those “you had to be there” situations, but let me tell you…it was a weird, weird day.

I chuckled when your post popped up in my reader – I’m wearing a blue/green floral skirt with a stripe breton, navy blazer and black tights right at this moment (to be blogged later as it’s only 11am here & I’m at my desk). I thought it looked great in the mirror and now I know I am not crazy and that stripes do indeed work as a neutral. As do polka dots, but that’s for another day 😀

Ha ha, too funny! Can’t wait to see your outfit! I agree, stripes and polka dots are definitely neutrals in my book! 🙂

The pig is the weirdest of them all – in Toronto? I agree with you, weird events do seem to come in 3s – but I think these are sometimes a good way to add whimsy back in our lives!

LOVE the skirt by the way!

And your not alone, I’ve had nightmares about wearing jeans on Thursday too. I always double check my phone Friday mornings because I’m so paranoid about it. 🙂

I can’t wear a tulip skirt but you rock this one. Maybe it’s those sky-high heels. I had the same thing happen last Thursday! I showed up in jeans! My manager wasn’t in or I’d have been in trouble!

Oh, Virgos! We are hilarious when things happen! As a teacher, I am only allowed to were jeans on Friday as well, and I have absolutely done the exact same thing you did. And I was mortified!

Also, I live in the Deep South and I can honestly say I have never seen a pig on the side of the road before, so you’ve got me beat there!

I love the shape of your skirt and the dark floral pattern for winter 🙂

I feel like I wake up every day of the week thinking it’s Friday (only to be disappointed when I realize it’s Wednesday). Such a downer! Love your stripes and florals combo, though…that’s my favorite way to mix prints!

Funny & weird day indeed Jenny! But your outfit is fab – really loving the pleated details on your jacket.

Similar thing random thing happened to my hubby & I yesterday. He comes and begins to tell me about a sandwich shop that is in his new office building and how wonderful it was. I begin to tell him that I tried a new sandwich place that my co-workers took me too which was really great too…..Yup..it was the same place 🙂

What is weirder for me to hear that to wear jeans is so uncommon. At my job, I was the strange one not wearing jeans every single day 🙂

Hi Jenny! Loved reading today’s post. Its amazing to have an understanding boss. I dont work on Fridays anymore, so I never wear jeans to work since I miss casual Fridays. And, the odds of you and your brother both being locked out is kinda interesting. Sounds like you were a good sport about it. Ps. Love visiting your blog everytime. Enjoy the rest of your week!
