The Perfect Wave

Monday, March 4, 2013 128 0

Coat: Rudsak (old, last seen here). Hat: ASOS (love this similar one with jewels). Top: Zara (similar). Jeans: H&M. Shoes: Nine West (Canadian link) (U.S. link). Handbag: Balenciaga. Sunglasses: ZeroUV. Lipstick: MAC “Media”.

I think I’ve done it…after more than 10 years of trying, I’ve finally figured out how to achieve the perfect “not-too-perfect, rolled-out-of-bed” wavy hair.  Now, this might sound like no big deal to those of you blessed with gorgeous tresses, but I’m not exaggerating when I say that I have the worst hair ever.  It’s thick, poufy, frizzy, dry, prone to split ends and has just enough wave that I need to straighten it everyday, but not enough wave for it to look presentable…arghh!  I’ve either straightened or curled my hair EVERY single time I’ve washed it for the last 15 years…yes, 15 years!

I’ve always used an inexpensive hair dryer, and I’ve been using the same brand of flat iron (to both straighten and curl my hair) for many, many years.  I honestly never thought that the brand or quality of the styling tools I used would make a noticeable difference in the appearance of my hair.  When the lovely people over at José Eber offered to send me a few of their products to try, I figured this was the perfect opportunity to test my theory.

They sent me 3 styling tools, the World’s Fastest Flat Iron, the Trio Clipless Curling Iron and the Infrared Blow Dryer.  I’ve been using all 3 products for the last couple of months and I can honestly say that they have made a huge difference in the appearance and healthiness of my hair.  I never realized the effect that high quality styling tools could have on my hair.  I’m almost at the point where I can blow dry my hair and I actually don’t have to straighten it before I leave the house!  That is shocking for me!

Tomorrow, I have an exciting little something for one of you lucky ladies.  The wonderful people at José Eber have offered to giveaway one of their styling tools, and the best part is you get to choose which item you want to win. . .either the World’s Fastest Flat Iron, the Trio Clipless Curling Iron or the Infrared Blow Dryer!  I will also be posting a little more detail about my experiences with each product, along with a few beginners tips that I’ve learned.  Be sure to check back in tomorrow for this great giveaway!

*Products were provided by José Eber, however this is not a sponsored post.  I chose to write about these products because I truly love them.

I have the opposite problem with my hair – it’s fine, limp and straight even after curling it.

I love this casual style on you -the pop of pink is perfect! I recently bought a pink beanie & never thought I would love it as much as I do.

I so agree, I had no idea what a difference good quality tools can make! I also have the Jose Eber curling iron trio & it’s awesome! I have found the biggest difference to be in the hair dryer – I got a really great one last year and the drying time & amount of frizziness has reduced so much, it’s amazing! & I see you’re rocking yet another pair of awesome mirrored sunnies! Love them!

My hair is still getting back to pre-pregnancy thickness 18 months after I gave birth! I desperately need a cut and some layers as it’s really dry and I’m trying to “train” it not to need washing every day by using Batiste two or three days a week instead of washing it. I just cannot be bothered to properly do my hair every day so full respect to you for battling with yours. Happy you’ve found a solution!

      March 4, 2013

Arghh…hair is just the biggest pain!!! Sounds like I’m not alone with these issues. I’ve heard that your hair drastically changes after giving birth…sounds like such a hassle. The great thing about the Jose Eber curling iron is that my curl lasts for two days! Thanks so much Louise!

Such a fun look! And those sunglasses are so fun;)
My hair has been chemically straightened since I’m 15 or it’s a frizzy unruly mess….I wish I could wake up every morning to perfect, beachy waves;) I need a new flat iron- especially because I heard flat irons make better waves!

    • Jenny
      March 4, 2013

Thanks so much Shira! Ha ha, having it chemically straightened must be so much easier…I should look into that! I’ve used a flat iron to curl my hair for many, many years. I loved using a flat iron for that WAY more than a curling iron (with clip), however, now that I’ve tried a clipless curling iron, I much prefer that. I feel like I can get a more perfect curl/wave with the clipless curling iron.

      • Shira
        March 5, 2013

Ha-I wouldn’t recommend japanese straightening (although i did have good results with it-it’s just super permanent and you also have to have a specific hair type for it to look good). Brazilian/keratin is a good option if you have a good place to do it. Hmmm…do you find that the curling iron keeps the wave as much as the iron? For some reason I’ve heard it holds better with the iron.

        • Jenny
          March 5, 2013

I actually did the Brazilian treatment several years ago and I LOVED it! It was incredible. Then my salon changed to a different brand, and it completely fried the bottom 6 inches of my hair. I had to chop it all off last Winter because it looked like straw. It was a nightmare. My hair is still trying to recover. I would definitely do it again if I could find the first brand I used, however, now I’m just way too scared to dry a different brand. Hmmm, I can honestly say that I haven’t noticed a difference in how the flat iron holds a curl compared to the curling iron. My opinion is that they are the same for my hair, however, it may be different for other hair types. Thanks so much Shira!

I have also always hated my hair for similar reasons but then I started to take better care of it by washing a LOT less often (like twice a week) and using a good (expensive) non sulfate shampoo. I use ENJOY … Tried Deva Curl but did not love it. Now my hair is soooo much healthier and I have nice loose waves if I wash and air dry. I use John Frieda lightweight serum. It comes in a purple bottle and you shake it to mix the two solutions together before applying. I try to avoid heat to keep my hair healthy. I used to wear my hair in a pony 90% of the time because my hair was either frizzy or just lame looking unless I really styled it.

    • Jenny
      March 4, 2013

Wow, thank you so much for these tips and product recommendations, Julie! I try to wash my hair only every other day, and I’ve been wanting to try a dry shampoo also. I’ll definitely try that shampoo and John Frieda product. Thanks again!

    • Jenny
      March 4, 2013

Ha ha ha ha, thanks Miranda! I used the curling iron with the largest attachment. I just held the hair a little looser on the wand and for a little less time. I used to use a hair straightener to curl my hair but I’m now finding I have more control with the clipless curling iron.
