Funny story about when I purchased this Chanel blue beauty .  .  . if you follow on Instagram, you may have seen that I purchased it was when I was in Chicago last month during Easter.  I usually only splurge on designer bags when I’m celebrating a milestone in my life, for example my very first bonus, a promotion at work, or my first birthday in seven years without a boyfriend (my 26th b-day, also a Chanel).  Well, I threw my rules out the window when I saw this vibrant cobalt blue bag at the Chanel store.  I saw it sitting on the shelf, and I fell instantly in love.  I tried it on, but left the store empty handed because I didn’t want to make an impulse purchase on something so expensive.  I usually put a lot of time and thought into my big purchases.

One hour later, I found myself walking back into the Chanel store.  I couldn’t stop thinking about this bag!  The sales associate greeted me by my name, and I felt a little embarrassed because I was hoping she wouldn’t remember me.  Another woman was trying on my bag, so I patiently waited my turn.  She was debating between the cobalt colour and the same bag in white.  I tried on the bag but this time I filled it with all of my purse contents to make sure it would fit my essentials.  However, once again, I left the store empty handed.

Another hour later, my thoughts consumed with this handbag, I was walking into the Chanel store for the 3rd time that day!  I smiled when I saw the same woman who was in the store an hour earlier, still debating between which colour to buy.  Just as the woman said “I’ll take the blue”, I said “I’ll take it too”, and we all laughed.

I haven’t regretted buying this blue stunner for a moment.  The colour is just gorgeous, and the size is perfect for day or night.  I’ve decided to sell a few of my other handbags to justify the purchase, which in my head, means the bag was free!  My Dad keeps telling me that’s not really how it works, but hey, a little pretend never hurt anyone.

I’m curious, do you own any designer handbags?  Do you put a lot of research into them or are they more of an impulse purchase?  Do you only buy them for milestone occasions, or do you buy them just to treat yourself?  Do you save for a while knowing you will purchase a designer bag once you’ve saved enough, or it is more of a “buy it when I feel like it” kind of thing?

Your story is too cute. I own quite a few and put zero thought in it, unless I am looking for a specific colour to match an outfit, otherwise I just buy what I like.

Jenny loving the cobalt blue caviar Chanel on you.
Wow three times in the store…I had the choice between lambskin with silver or caviar with gold but I really wanted lambskin with gold which the SA checked the system and located for me.. I was ready to leave the store with a blk flap at any cost.. It’s my milestone present for finishing my biggest project at work.. Plus the price increase was due soon that’s my justification.. I didn’t see this style in store but will go back soon and have a look I like the fact urs has a zip inside

OKAY! I LOVE the purse, the colour, the outfit AND the story behind it!
    Beautiful!

I do have a few designer bags, mostly Gucci and one Burberry.
I’m usually the type to “visit” my coveted items over and over and over again. Sometimes I end up buy it, and sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I regret it, and sometimes I don’t. Usually if it gets reduced I’ll grab it asap.
Only once have I seen a bag and purchased it on the spot, full price.. funny enough I haven’t worn it in years. I guess I’ve learned my lesson!

On my current grad student budget there is no way that a designer purse would be a responsible purchase, but that doesn’t stop me from oogling them on others! Love the cobalt statement color!

I am never spontaneous with bag-buying, I have a beautiful Chloe and recently bought a Dolce and Gabbana handbag and with both purchases I saved up for a loooooooooong time and debated over them for a looooooooooooong time.

I love the passion that you felt for this bag though, and it looks so good on you! Enjoy it!

I love that cobalt blue and the way you styled it too. So chic. I was in a Saks in the Naples area a few months ago and spent a long time contemplating the Prada handbags (well, drooling is more like it). But in the end I didn’t feel comfortable taking the leap. Like you, I need time to think about it carefully, because 2K for a bag is a significant buy and I would want to be absolutely in love with it before taking the leap. I also need to make sure my finances are ready! ha ha I’m glad you found a gorgeous bag that you love — you’ll surely be loving it for years and years, so it’s worth it!

I don’t own any designer bags but I love this blue Chanel!! I used to be an impulse shopper but in the past couple years I’ve become much more budget-conscious. I don’t make any shopping purchases without a really good reason, which can get really boring!

I’m in love with that bag!! I treated myself when I was 22 to a Louis Vuitton, and I’ve never regretted it. It’s an expensive purchase, but I think when you really love something, you should treat yourself. A Chanel bag is definitely on my Fashion Bucket List!

Gorgeous bag! Is it the medium or jumbo?

I just purchased the classic caviar. It was an impulse buy, I always wanted a chanel classic and I recently turned 40! So this is a gift for myself : )

Thanks Tamar! Congrats on your Chanel purchase! I’m sure you won’t regret it! My bag is called a Jumbo, but it’s actually a bit smaller than the Classic Jumbo, but much larger than the medium. I’m not sure why they called it the same when it’s not actually the same size. It’s still a really good size though. Hope you enjoy your bag, and Happy 40th Birthday!
