Sunshine and warmth are a rarity in Toronto, so we try to soak up every little bit of it while we can during the Summer.  Each weekend over the last month, Justin and I have tried to hit either the beach or a park, and spend some much needed time outside.  Last Friday, Gaby and I decided to take the day off and head to the beach for some girl talk and relaxation.

Since we’ve been spending so much time outdoors lately, my “Summer” bag is pretty much always packed and ready to go.  A fun towel or blanket is definitely a necessity, and I absolutely love this round aztec towel from The Beach People.  A great tote bag is also a must, and I’m loving this beautiful perforated bag I purchased from Stella & Dot.  But above all, I always have a fun Summer book packed in my bag.  I just started reading Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter, but I’m always looking for more great reads for the beach.  Any suggestions?

Haute Classics

Haute Classics

A few weeks ago, Haute Classics, an amazing designer consignment boutique in Toronto, asked me to help kick off the season with them to celebrate their new Summer collection.  Of course, I jumped at the opportunity.  I mean, spending a couple of days surrounded by Chanel, Hermes, Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, and so much more luxury?!  I was like a kid in a candy store.

I visited Haute Classics a couple of weeks ago to select five gorgeous pieces to showcase at their media preview which was held last week.  It was one of the most challenging tasks I’ve had in a while.  I was so overwhelmed by all of the beautiful clothing, shoes, bags and accessories, that I didn’t know where to start.  For those of you a little too far away to make it in to the boutique, they have a huge assortment of their goodies available on their website.

After several hours of oohing, aahing, hemming and hawing, I finally selected my top five pieces.  Of course, since I have an eye for sparkle, I was drawn to two stunning sparkly party dresses.  I decided to go with a “Party” theme, and ended up choosing the two glitzy cocktail numbers, a pair of drop-dead-gorgeous Manolo’s, the perfect neutral Prada’s and an adorable beaded Fendi bag.

The media event was such a blast.  So many well dressed people in such a small space.  The wine was flowing, the food was tasty, and the crowd was fabulous.  Along with myself, Haute Classics featured the top store picks of two other super sweet Toronto bloggers, Dani from Girls of T.O. and Peter from The Starving Stylist.

The event also celebrated the launch of Haute Classics’ first issue of their new e-magazine, The Haute Curator. They were sweet enough to do a little feature on Peter, Dani, and I.  Check it out here.

A huge thank you goes out to Jacky, Jina, Stella and the rest of the amazing team at Haute Classics for allowing me to be a part of this fabulous celebration.

Stripes for All Occasions

What to Wear to the Office

Club Monaco Striped Jacket (similar from 424 Fifth)  //  424 Fifth Polka Dot Mesh Top  //  Zara Pink Pants  (similar from B/R)  // Nine West White Martina Pumps (similar)  //  Chanel Caviar Jumbo Handbag (beautiful vintage version at Farfetch)  //  Chanel Sunglasses (similar from Madewell)  //  Stella & Dot Odette Ring

Stripes, stripes and more stripes.  Stripes are such a classic and easy print to pair with almost every pattern and color.  I used to be scared of horizontal stripes because “they” say that horizontal stripes make you look wider. Well, whoever “they” are, “they” are wrong.  I’ve since learned that it’s actually about the fit and cut of the clothing rather than the direction of the stripes.  I know that vertical stripes are supposed to elongate your body, however I actually find horizontal stripes to be much more flattering most of the time.

To add a little bit of fun to this post, I’ve partnered with two extra fabulous Canadian ladies to showcase how we each wear stripes for three different occasions.  The super stylish Kira from Northern Style Exposure is highlighting casual stripes, the always gorgeous Eleni from Convey the Moment is wearing stripes for date night, and I’m wearing stripes for the office.  Definitely check out these two wonderful women over on their blogs.

This striped Club Monaco jacket is one of my favorite items in my wardrobe.  Sadly it’s old, but 424 Fifth currently has a very similar version on sale available at Hudson’s Bay or Lord & Taylor.  It seems to look good with everything, and adds that perfect finishing touch to an outfit.  I’ve also worn it with sneakers for a casual look, with a chartreuse dress for work, and a white dress for a date night.
