Stripes for All Occasions

What to Wear to the Office

Club Monaco Striped Jacket (similar from 424 Fifth)  //  424 Fifth Polka Dot Mesh Top  //  Zara Pink Pants  (similar from B/R)  // Nine West White Martina Pumps (similar)  //  Chanel Caviar Jumbo Handbag (beautiful vintage version at Farfetch)  //  Chanel Sunglasses (similar from Madewell)  //  Stella & Dot Odette Ring

Stripes, stripes and more stripes.  Stripes are such a classic and easy print to pair with almost every pattern and color.  I used to be scared of horizontal stripes because “they” say that horizontal stripes make you look wider. Well, whoever “they” are, “they” are wrong.  I’ve since learned that it’s actually about the fit and cut of the clothing rather than the direction of the stripes.  I know that vertical stripes are supposed to elongate your body, however I actually find horizontal stripes to be much more flattering most of the time.

To add a little bit of fun to this post, I’ve partnered with two extra fabulous Canadian ladies to showcase how we each wear stripes for three different occasions.  The super stylish Kira from Northern Style Exposure is highlighting casual stripes, the always gorgeous Eleni from Convey the Moment is wearing stripes for date night, and I’m wearing stripes for the office.  Definitely check out these two wonderful women over on their blogs.

This striped Club Monaco jacket is one of my favorite items in my wardrobe.  Sadly it’s old, but 424 Fifth currently has a very similar version on sale available at Hudson’s Bay or Lord & Taylor.  It seems to look good with everything, and adds that perfect finishing touch to an outfit.  I’ve also worn it with sneakers for a casual look, with a chartreuse dress for work, and a white dress for a date night.

That jacket is absolutely perfect! I love it – and as you well know, my love for black & white stripes runs deep! 😉 I couldn’t help but think of the TV show “Blossom” when you talked about whoever “they” are – I remember an episode where Blossom’s Dad’s Girlfriend’s daughter (ha!) referred to “they” and her little friend said “who’s they?” and she answered “the president and his wife!” – haha so there you go. Apparently that’s who “they” are! 😉

Hahahaha, that’s hilarious! I used to watch Blossom, but really don’t remember much from the show except for her, Joey and Six. 🙂 Every time I watch Mayim Bialik on The Big Bang Theory, I think of Blossom. She is absolutely hilarious on Big Bang. Well, thanks for the education. I now know who “they” are. LOL

Haha, and I just googled Mayim Bialik to see how to say her name, and this recent blog post came up. Too funny! http://www.kveller.com/mayim-bialik/mayim-bialik-the-cast-of-blossom-reunited-this-is-what-happened/

Gorgeous jacket! I agree about the vertical vs horizontal stripes thing, I too always heard that horizontal stripes widen you but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone look good in vertical stripes whereas you have three gals in here proving horizontal stripes look amazing.

I love your classic Chanel flap. It elevates any outfit! Also drooling over your stripes jacket, always just a big fan of stripes.

I love your blazer Jenny. You styled it lovely with these pink ankle-cut jeans. I never cared much about the stripes-myth, it is a myth after all. I agree with you when you say that horizontal stripes are often more flattering than vertical ones 🙂 xo
