The Canvas Collection Canadian Tire

You may have seen on my Instagram last week that I co-hosted a “Tablescapes” Spring DIY Workshop, featuring the CANVAS outdoor dining collection from Canadian Tire. I had sooo much fun that I wanted to share a little recap of the event for those of you who couldn’t attend. My co-host was the talented Tracy Platt, Canadian Tire’s resident style expert. Her and her team designed every piece of the CANVAS indoor and outdoor collection, and I must say, WOW, what an amazing job they did!

There are so many pieces in the CANVAS Spring Collection that I wanted, but when I finally narrowed it down, I went for a turquoise tropical theme (see my setting in the photo below). My fave pieces included the CANVAS Aloha Dessert Plates, the CANVAS Marina Dinner Plates, and the CANVAS Serving Board. Such a stunning colour combo, and perfect for Spring/Summer!

The “Tablescapes” Spring DIY Workshop had a great turnout! Attendees received some Al Fresco Table Setting Tips from Tracy and myself, they worked together to create some fun tablescapes of their own, and got to check out the CANVAS Collection showroom, showcasing all of the indoor and outdoor pieces from the Spring lineup.

I had such an amazing time at this event, and am so thankful that I had this opportunity. A huge thank you to Canadian Tire for partnering with me for this workshop and this blog post. My outdoor dining game has definitely been taken up a notch!

Living Room Progress Report + Small Space Sofa Find

Colorful Living Room, Gray Tufted Sofa, Picture Ledge Gallery Wall

I’m so excited to finally share with you the progress on our living room redecorating project. You may have seen my last couple of posts of our bedroom progress and our dining nook. After a very long 4 months of redecorating, all of our hard work is finally come together! Here is glimpse at our living space so far.

Now, I’ll preface this post by saying that almost all of the styling is going to change in the next month or so, ie. most of the photos on the wall (I’m waiting for new prints to come in), the pillows (can’t decide what fabrics I want), and the decor on the shelving unit beside the sofa (I have new items I want to display). But, all of the big ticket items are new and staying, like the sofa, coffee table, rug and shelves. It will be a couple more months before everything is complete, but I wanted to share some progress photos in the mean time, and share some info on the pieces in the space.

I should also offer a second post preface by saying that we rent our condo, and that we (obviously) live in a very small space….two things that can make decorating very tricky. It’s tough to decide which investment pieces to purchase that will hopefully fit in our next condo, and which pieces to save some money on because we don’t know if they’ll fit in our next space.

The hardest decision of all was definitely our selecting a sofa…..

It took me literally 5 months to find our sofa. I had been looking since last January, and finally found the perfect sofa in May. I had a long list of criteria. I wanted a sofa that had…

  1. blue or gray material (I was thinking a beautiful, rich blue, or a looks-good-with-everything medium gray)
  2. tufting (our old sofa was not tufted, and I wanted this one to feel very different from our previous one)
  3. a sectional (we spend a lot of time on our sofa, and need the extra space when we both want to spread out)
  4. under 90″ wide (surprisingly, this is very hard to find, and it falls into the “apartment sofa size” category)
  5. not too expensive (we don’t know if this sofa will fit into our next condo, so we didn’t want to spend a fortune)
  6. most importantly, a sofa bed (we live in a 1 bedroom, and often have out-of-town guests stay with us)

After months and months of searching online, I was almost ready to give up, when I somehow came across the absolutely perfect sofa. It was from a store called Small Space Plus, in Toronto (located at 380 Alliance Ave, just north of the junction), that specializes in condo-sized furniture. I made Justin go to the store with me that same day to check it, and it was just perfect in person. The sofa is called the Valencia sofa, and it fit all of our criteria, including converting into a sofa bed and the critical requirement of being under 90″ (the Valencia is an ideal 84″ long”).  It came in a beautiful medium shade of grey, called Smoke Grey.

The team in the store was so lovely and wonderful to work with. They were very knowledgeable about their products and about small space limitations. We got to chatting, learned about each other, and decided to partner on a post for their website! Head over to the Small Space Plus site to check out my top picks from their store, and for a fun interview I did about small space living! I’m sure my fellow small space dwellers will be able to relate.

And…I’m so excited to share that those of you who shop my picks, including the Valencia sofa, can receive 15% off your purchase using code LOVE16! How fabulous!!!

West Elm Marble Topped Brass Pedestal Table

Another purchase that was very difficult to find was our coffee table. I wanted a white marble table, it had to be round (because our space is small, and I knew we would be banging our legs on the corners of a square or rectangular table), and it had to be under 32″ (again, because of our space restriction. Most coffee tables seem to be much larger). I had been on the West Elm website a thousand times, and on the one thousand and one time, this beautiful marble and brass pedestal coffee table appeared. It was love at first site, and I knew this was the table I needed to own!

Dining Nook Look + Gray Malin Love

Earlier this week, I shared a sneak peek into our bedroom (hope you enjoyed it!), and today, I’m super excited to feature some progress photos of our tiny dining space. And by “tiny”, I mean “TINY”! This wall with our table is only 6.5′ long, and it’s in the open space of our living room. We can literally only fit 2 chairs (I pull out 2 more folding ballroom chairs when we have guests), and the table had to be a max width of 36″ (tough to find)! This white IKEA table in the photos is temporary, until our marble tulip table arrives in December (that was a nightmare story that I’ll fill you in at a later time)! #cantwait

In my bedroom, the element I was most excited for was my Chasing Paper speckle wallpaper. In this space, this gorgeous Gray Malin photograph wins hands down for bringing me the most joy everyday (although I’m pretty thrilled with my chairs too). I’ve wanted a Gray Malin photo for years, and I’m completely OBSESSED with his work. For months, I would literally visit his website almost every day trying to choose which photo I wanted for our space. I finally narrowed it down to this stunning “Almafi Sunbathers“, and the really playful “Skinny Dip” Flamingo photo. Justin really didn’t have any opinions on how we decorated our condo (his only requirement was that it was “livable”), but I asked his opinion on this photography because I really couldn’t decide. He chose the Amalfi Sunbathers, so that was the winner!

This photograph is definitely a statement piece in our living space, and one I’ll know that I’ll cherish for many, many years to come. If you haven’t seen Gray’s work, definitely check out his website ASAP! You’ll fall crazy in love at first glance. And…he just posted a Black Friday sale, where you can save 30% off all photography with code TURKEY30 until Monday! This is his biggest sale of the year, so if you are debating buying a photo, NOW is definitely the time!! I’m also strongly considering purchasing one of his small sized (11.5″x17″) photographs for our picture ledge gallery above our sofa, but as always, I’m struggling to narrow down my top choice. I’ll definitely share it will you once I purchase it!

If you’re obsessed with Gray’s photography, also be sure to check out his book, “Beaches“. I literally purchased it the day it was released. I’ll often sit down with a glass of wine, flip through all of the stunning pages, and dream of being on one of those sandy beaches, sipping sangria and soaking in the sun. #summerdreaming

My second favorite element of our dining nook is definitely our turquoise and gold chairs. As soon as I saw these, I was smitten. I knew I wanted to reupholster them in either a peacock/teal blue or a cheetah print. Again, I asked Justin, who was leaning towards the turquoise, so that’s what we went with. You may have seen my sad story about these chairs on Instagram. Long story short, I had them reupholstered, and they came back with a big scratch down one side, and stinking of smoke. The awful smell has finally disappeared, and I’ve filled in the scratches with a gold leafing pen, but wow, it was stressful!

Once our new table arrives, this little space will be complete. I hope you enjoyed this look into dining nook, and I’ll be sharing a peek into our living area later next week! As always, thank you so much for following along!!
