DIY Mimosa Set Up

The mimosa is one of my all-time favourite drinks. Not only is it light, bubbly, and refreshing, but it’s also one of the only cocktails that is acceptable to drink before 11am. 😉 The only thing I love more than mimosas served at an event, is making said mimosas myself at said event. A DIY mimosa bar is fun, interactive, delicious, and most importantly, easy.

Mimosa Orange Juice and Sparkling Wine

I was recently introduced to Simply Orange’s new orange juice with coconut water. Orange juice and coconut water are two of my favourite things to drink, so I was really excited to try this new twist on a classic. To my extreme delight, the juice was really light in taste and very refreshing. Even Justin, who finds fruit juice to be too sweet, really loved the new Simply Orange with Coconut Water. On top of it’s deliciousness, it’s only 80 calories per serving, never sweetened, and has no preservatives, artificial flavours or colours.

After trying this juice, I thought to myself that the only thing that could possibly make it any better could be to add a little bubbly. And wow, was I right. I’m not exaggerating when I say that it was the best mimosa I’ve ever had. The light, refreshing juice paired with the bubbly sparkling wine, created magic in a glass.

How to Make a Mimosa

Mimosas with Simply Orange Coconut Water

A DIY Mimosa Bar is super easy to create. All you need is the following:

1. A Selection of Juices. Orange is classic, but you can also mix it up with different flavours. I chose the Simply Orange with Coconut Water, along with Simply Lemonade and Simply Lemonade with Raspberry.

2. A Little Bubbly. Champagne, Sparkling Wine, Prosecco and Cava are all perfect choices. Since I’ll be mixing the bubbly with juice, I usually opt for Prosecco, since it’s more budget conscience than champagne, but tastes equally as delicious.

3. Fresh Fruit. I always like to add fresh fruit to my mimosas for an extra splash of flavour. I like raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries and oranges.

4. Champagne Flutes. Although you can go with any type of glassware, tradition calls for champagne flutes. And it just feels extra pretty and girly too.

5. Sparkling Water. A good-to-have if you are hosting children or friends who do not drink alcohol.

A few additional items to include in your DIY Mimosa Bar are:

1. An ice bucket. It comes in handy for extra champagne bottles if you don’t have time to keep checking on the bubbly levels. It’s also good to keep some on ice if you have a lot of guests, so you’re not constantly running to the fridge.

2. Juice labels. A cute touch would be to label the juice flavours with a tag around the bottle neck or a little place card in front.

3. Pretty accessories. Paper straws, cocktail umbrellas, gorgeous flowers, fun tablecloths, and cute napkins are all easy elements to add that really take your Mimosa Bar to the next level of pretty.

Finally, remember, that a mimosa is super simple to make. It’s one part juice to one part bubbly. So, just fill half the glass with juice and the remaining half with champagne or sparkling wine. Who would have thought something so easy could bring so much joy to my taste buds.

If you follow along on Instagram, last week you may have seen that VictoriaGaby and I had a little pre-Christmas baking session. We made Gaby’s Grandmother’s Spitzbuben Cookie recipe, also known as Swiss Jam Sandwich Cookies. Let me tell you, these are D-E-L-I-S-H!

You can find the recipe on Gaby’s blog. We used Christmas cookie cutters to make these more festive, but Gaby’s recipe includes another option of an icing sugar topping. Both are super yummy!
