Best Holiday Beauty Kits

You may have already heard me say this a few times, but I’ve been completely beauty obsessed lately. I can’t stop buying the latest and greatest makeup and skincare! The holiday season is truly a beauty lover’s dream come true. So many brands create stunning, collectable limited edition holiday products and kits, and many of them are value driven too (who doesn’t love a good deal?!).

I’m obsessed with so many of the holiday collections that have come out this season, but 4 really stood out as my favourites. I just had to share all of this holiday beauty goodness with you! Not only did I purchase most of this for myself, I also purchased several of these items for Christmas gifts. All my girlfriends are getting beauty gifts this year! You get a lipstick, and you get a lipstick, and you get a lipstick…

1.  MAC Snowball Holiday Collection 2017

MAC definitely wins the award this season for the most festive, sparkly, girly holiday packaging. I wanted the entire collection! I showed some restraint, and only purchased the cult-fave Whisper of Gilt highlighter, and the mini brush set. The collection is huge, but here are some of my fave kits:

  • MAC Snow Ball Face Bag (shown below): This kit includes cult favourite “Whisper of Gilt” Extra Dimension Skinfinish (ie. a stunning pale gold highlighter), a beautiful rose-gold handled fan brush, and a sparkly makeup bag. One of my co-workers bought this on launch day, and I immediately ran to the store to buy it too.
  • MAC Snow Ball Mini Brush Kit: I also purchased this 3-piece mini rose-gold brush kit, as it’s the perfect size for travelling!
  • MAC Snow Ball Eye Compact: A gorgeous 6-shade eye shadow palette that comes in 2 colour combinations.
  • MAC Snow Ball Nude Lip Bag: An adorable trio of a Lipstick, Lipglass and Lip Pencil, all packaged in a beautiful makeup bag.
  • MAC Snow Ball Mini Lipstick Kit: Truly a collector’s favourite, this kit includes 12 mini lipsticks, in beautiful colour-matched packaging. I really wanted this kit, but held back because I’ve been buying so many lipsticks lately. We’ll see if I cave, and purchase it. 😉

2.  NARS x Man Ray Holiday Collection

Definitely one of the most robust collections this season, NARS Cosmetics partnered with modern artist Man Ray to create a stunning limited edition holiday collection, full of palettes, glosses, and mini sets. This is one of my favourite NARS collaborations to date. The packaging is creative, beautiful and collectable. The kits include best selling colours, like Orgasm and Laguna, but also a ton of new limited edition colours that are just as gorgeous. Here is a selection from the collection:

  • The Veil Cheek Palette: By far, my favourite piece from the collection. This cheek trio includes a bronzer (iconic Laguna), a blush and a highlighter. This is the perfect palette for travelling!
  • Love Game Eyeshadow Palette: This stunning palette includes 12 new, eye-catching shades, inspired by Man Ray’s muse Ady Fidelin, the first African American model to be featured in a fashion magazine.
  • The Kiss Velvet Matte Lip Pencil Set: I already purchased this beautiful set for a friend for Christmas. It includes 4 shades of the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, packaged in the most gorgeous glossy gold cosmetic bag.
  • Love Triangles: These are the perfect stocking stuffers! Available in 5 colour combos, these triangles include a mini blush and mini lipstick. I purchased the “Orgasm Love Triangle” for a friend who loves Orgasm blush, and wanted a travel size.
  • Photogloss Lip Lacquer: Four shades of a new limited edition formula, these are saturated with a high-shine finish. My favourite colour is Red Hazelnut.

3. Viktor & Rolf BonBon Limited Edition

I’m a fragrance collector (I have a pretty large collection), but I’m really particular about the ones I wear every day. I only wear a handful of scents consistently, and two of them happen to be created by Viktor & Rolf, BonBon and Flowerbomb. With a sequin bow, the Viktor & Rolf BonBon Limited Edition bottle for holiday 2017 couldn’t be any cuter. I just had to have it! It also makes for the sweetest gift!

4. YSL Dazzling Lights Holiday Collection

Year after year, Yves Saint Laurent consistently creates the most covetable holiday collections, and this year isn’t any different. Adorned with the prettiest pink fireworks, these are truly dazzling collectibles of some of their classic, best-selling products. I purchase the Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in 70 Le Nu each year in it’s limited edition packaging to add to my collection.

5 Hair Products & Tools You Need to Try Now

Friday, December 16, 2016 4 0

Dyson Supersonic, T3 MicroWand Hair Curler, Moroccan oil, Batiste Dry Shampoo review, Matrix Biolage Shampoo

I’m super lucky that I get to test out a ton of beauty products, and I also buy a heck of a lot of beauty items as well. My day job is in the beauty industry, so I work with a lot of beauty-obsessed women (and men!), and get a ton of recommendations and insider knowledge. All that to say, I LOVE BEAUTY PRODUCTS! I’m always on the hunt for the latest and greatest, and keep on testing, buying & researching until I find the best products to suit my needs. I get pretty passionate when I’m sharing my favorite beauty finds with my friends, so I decided that going forward, each month, I’m going to share my absolute fave beauty items that I can’t stop raving about, here on the blog.

For December, I thought I would start with my favorite hair products and tools that I simply can’t live without. With the recent weather change from warm to ice cold, I’ve been particularly concerned with my hair lately. It gets super dry and staticky in the Winter, so I have to take extra special care of it during the colder months. Here are 5 of my current favorite hair products and tools that I highly, highly recommend!

T3 Whirl Trio Interchangeable Styling Wand

T3 is a new brand to me, that I only recently discovered. The tools initially caught my eye because of their beautiful white, sleek designs, but then one of my girlfriends purchased the Straightening Iron, and she couldn’t stop raving about it. I tried it at her house, and fell instantly in love. It straightened my hair, leaving it sleek and smooth. The temperature felt really hot, but not too hot to burn my hair, and it left my hair frizz free all day. I was in need of a new flat iron, as well as a curling wand, but I ended up going with the curling wand first. The straightening iron will be my next purchase in the new year.

I absolutely love the T3 Whirl Interchangeable Styling Wand. It comes with 3 interchangeable barrels (1″, 1.5″, and a tapered barrel), which allows me to create different looks. I usually go for a slightly more defined beachy wave look, and this wand helped me create it perfectly. Some wands kink my hair near the ends where I end the curl, but this wand left a perfect transition from the wavy hair to the straight ends. It leaves my hair feeling smooth and shiny, and somehow de-frizzes it at the same time. Most importantly, it actually holds my curls for 2 days, until I wash my hair. My waves will fall when I use a lot of other tools, so this was a big selling feature for me. Plus, it’s beautiful! And who doesn’t want to use pretty tools!! I highly recommend this styling wand, and I will definitely also be purchasing their straightening iron as well.

Matrix Biolage Raw Shampoo and Conditioner

I’ve been trying to add more and more natural products to my beauty regime. I’ve cut almost all chemicals and preservatives out of my diet, and the products that go onto my skin should be just as important as the products I put into my body. But, for some reason, I have this weird misconception that natural products don’t work as well as products full of chemicals. CRAZY, right?!?! I don’t know why I feel like that, but my guess is that it’s because most of the natural products I’ve tried just weren’t that good. But, there are tons and tons of chemical filled products that don’t work either. So I’ve been on a mission to try more natural products to find the ones that really work.

When I came across Biolage R.A.W Shampoo and Conditioner, I was really intrigued. I read that the products contain zero sulfates, zero silicones, zero parabens and zero artifical colorants. They are made with 100% recycled packagaing, and up to 99% biodegradable formulas. So, I gave them a shot, and absolutely loved the results! My hair felt clean, shiny and silky, and I just felt better knowing I wasn’t absorbing as many chemicals into my skin as with my old shampoos. I’m just about to start my thrid bottle of this shampoo and conditioner, and it’s quickly become one of my faves.

Batiste Dry Shampoo

I can confidently say that I’ve tried every dry shampoo on the market. Okay, well, maybe not all of them, but I’ve tried dozens! Hand down, my favorite dry shampoos are the ones from Batiste. They don’t leave white flakes in my hair (like most of their competitors), they add glorious volume (it looks like I just had a blow out), and actually does what it says it does (makes your hair feel fresh and clean by absorbing oil and grease).

Whenever I see a new Batiste fragrance, I buy it, hence my large collection. I actually love them all, but the original scent is my favorite. I am dying to get my hands on the cherry scent, but I haven’t seen it in stores yet. Hopefully soon!

Moroccan Oil Hair Treatment

I’ve been using MoroccanOil Hair Treatment for as long as I can remember. I’m guessing it has to be at least 10 years now, but it could be much longer. I typically use it more in the Winter, as my hair is drier during the colder months. Basically, it’s a treatment infused with argan oil and vitamins, to leave your hair shiny and smooth. And it does just that! It also speeds up drying time, and detangles my very tangly hair. I apply it to wet hair, just before I blow dry, and it leaves my hair silky and frizz free. Definitely a staple hair product for me!

Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer Review

Last, but certainly not least, is the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer. Let me tell you, I’ve never been so excited to try a hair tool in my life. And I’ve never had so many people ask me about what I thought of something, annnnddd….if they can try it! lol To sum up my thoughts on this hair dryer in one quick, easy sentence…”I will never use any other hair dryer than the Dyson Supersonic again”. It is game changing. I could rave about this product for hours, but I’ll try to keep it brief and concise. Here are the many, many reasons why I love this product so much:

  • It feels so luxurious. This was the first thing I noticed. As soon as I picked it up, it just felt well-made, smooth, ergonomic, expensive and luxurious.
  • It’s light weight. The first time I picked it up, I didn’t particularly notice the difference in weight from my current hair dryer, but as I actually started to use it, the difference was like night and day. My hand didn’t get tired, and it felt balanced in my hand, instead of top/front heavy.
  • It’s very powerful, and fast drying. It takes me less time to dry my hair than with other hair dryers. It’s hard to explain, but the push of air feels consistent and steady. It gets hot, but not too hot that I feel like it’s damaging my hair.
  • My hair was smooth and less frizzy. This is the most important feature to me, and visibly made a difference in the appearance of my hair.

I brought the Supersonic to my parents home for the weekend so my Mother could try it as well. She felt the exact same as I did about all of the points above. It’s now on her Christmas wish list!

Priced at $399 US / $499 CAN, the Dyson Supersonic is definitely an investment. I was lucky enough to receive this as a press sample, however, after using this game changing product for a couple of months, I can tell you that I would most definitely spend my hard earned money on this. I’m the type of person who pays for quality, innovation, design, luxury and most importantly, products that actually work really well. If you are the same, then you definitely need the Dyson Supersonic in your life.

The Gift of Fragrance

Top 7 Perfumes for Gift Giving

One of my favourite holiday gifts to give and receive is fragrance. Perfumes feel like a luxury that often times people don’t purchase for themselves. Or, a woman will have her one signature scent that she’ll purchase, but she still wants to build a fragrance “wardrobe”, and have other options for different moods, seasons, and occasions.

I absolutely love having a collection of fragrances that I can mix and match, and sometimes even layer. Perfumes smell totally different on me than they do in the bottle or on other people, so I’m always testing out fragrances in the store to see what they actually smell like on my skin. I have a huge collection of perfumes, and it’s one that I’m always looking to grow.

These 7 scents are some of my absolute favourites, and smell very similar on me as they do in the bottle. Hopefully, none of my close friends are reading this post, because some of them will be receiving a few of these scents this year for Christmas. 😉
