I’m usually pretty classic when it comes to sunglasses frames, as I tend to buy investment sunnies that will remain classics for years. Think tortoise shell, aviators, black, silver, cat eye, etc. It’s only recently that I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and experimented with colour and prints.

One of my favourite brands for classic frames with a playful twist is Kate Spade, available at IRIS the Visual Group. She’s the queen of fun elements like colour, glitter, patterns and embellishments. When I tried on these black and white striped sunglasses, I immediately felt playful, confident, and a wee bit sassy. They add that perfect classic-yet-trendy, cool-girl, splash-of-fun to any simple outfit. Plus, I received like 4 compliments on the subway, so that’s a pretty big confidence boost right there.

Thank you to IRIS the Visual Group for partnering on this post!

Sweater: Club Monaco. Skirt: H&M. Shoes: Nine West (U.S. link) (Canadian link). Clutch: Marc Jacobs. Belt, Necklace and Bracelets: BCBG. Rings: Coach. Sunglasses: Chanel.

Toronto’s fashion elite were out in full force last week for the World Mastercard Fashion Week.  This was my first time attending Fashion Week, and what a week it was.  I will admit that it was not as glamorous as I had imagined, however, I felt like I was in fashion heaven the entire time.  It was so thrilling to be around so many stylish people who share my same love for fashion.  The most exciting part was getting to meet and spend time with many other Toronto bloggers…women I now feel like I can call my friends.

This winter white ensemble was what I wore to the first day of Fashion Week.  Oh, it was freezing outside, but I was determined to not wear tights with any of my outfits.  If there is a time to suffer for fashion, I would say that Fashion Week is definitely that time.

Over the next week, I will share with you what I wore each day for the shows, and also some of my favourite pieces from the most impressive collections on the runways.  My favourite show in terms of wear-ability was definitely Pink Tartan.  Created by Kimberly Newport-Mimran, (wife to Joe Mimran, founder of Club Monaco and Joe Fresh), this collection was full of retro lady-like luxury.  I can honestly say that I would wear almost every piece that came down the runway.  My favourite look was the first piece that kicked off the show. . .the gorgeous floral print swing coat shown below.  I could see myself wearing this coat year round and feeling uber-glamorous no matter what I was wearing it with.

Black-and-White-Bold-Stripes-Zara-J Crew

Skirt: Zara. Top: J.Crew. Tights: Hue. Booties: Nine West (U.S. here) (Canadian here). Ring: Stella & Dot. Handbag: Chanel. Sunglasses: Chanel.

The super sweet Amy (from Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins) and I partnered today to showcase one of Spring 2013’s hottest trends: bold stripes.  When I heard this was a “trend” for Spring, my first thought was that stripes are always in style, sort of like animal prints and denim.  Maybe I’m a little slow on the uptake, but I finally realized that “trendy” just means that designers and retailers have decided to focus on it this particular season and that it will be readily available in stores.  Zara has definitely committed to both bold stripes and black & white this Spring.  They have so much of it currently in store, including this great skirt I picked up a few weeks ago.  I thought it would be fun to pair this bold print with a matching top for a look that almost appears like a dress.

Coincidentally, Amy and I went for similar looks but she paired her fabulous striped shorts with a bright pop of one of my favourite colours, cobalt blue.  Please visit Amy’s blog, Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins, to check out more photos and details of her pretty look.
