Sunshine and warmth are a rarity in Toronto, so we try to soak up every little bit of it while we can during the Summer.  Each weekend over the last month, Justin and I have tried to hit either the beach or a park, and spend some much needed time outside.  Last Friday, Gaby and I decided to take the day off and head to the beach for some girl talk and relaxation.

Since we’ve been spending so much time outdoors lately, my “Summer” bag is pretty much always packed and ready to go.  A fun towel or blanket is definitely a necessity, and I absolutely love this round aztec towel from The Beach People.  A great tote bag is also a must, and I’m loving this beautiful perforated bag I purchased from Stella & Dot.  But above all, I always have a fun Summer book packed in my bag.  I just started reading Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter, but I’m always looking for more great reads for the beach.  Any suggestions?

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  On Saturday, Justin and I decided to go to the Beaches Jazz Fest on the east end of Toronto.  The anticipated highlight for us was the Gourmet Food Truck Extravaganza, featuring the best food trucks the City has to offer.  We did our research and even pre-decided on which food trucks we wanted to eat at.  Mexican for me, Cuban for Justin, followed by some freshly squeezed lemonade for the both of us.  Sounded like a great plan . . . that is until we got there and realized that we had the wrong dates!  The Jazz Fest is running all week but the Food Trucks are only there this upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday!  Oh the disappointment!

We then remembered reading that a large stretch of the main road was to be closed off to vehicles, allowing for festival-goers to party in the streets, while listening to a different jazz band on every street corner.  We decided to walk the 2 km to the street party area.  Yet again to our surprise, upon arrival the road was wide open and there was not a jazz band in sight.  We checked our phones and quickly realized that we once again made a mistake on the dates!  The Street Fest is next weekend!  Two for two!

We felt as dumb as could be, but couldn’t help but laugh at ourselves.  We turned it into a positive and said we were on our “city adventure” since we were exploring many new-to-us neighborhoods of Toronto.   In total we walked over 11 km on Saturday (that’s 7 miles for my American friends).  Even with our silly mistakes, it was a fabulous day. How was your weekend?  Did you do anything exciting?

P.S. I’m linking up with Jane for her #thewaywewear series, featuring shorts this month.
